#117 - Changes Of Plan & COMPETITION

Happy Birthday CMO! 4 years.. That's the total time CMO's been running as of this month (not the average time between updates, believe it or not!) Things are coming along nicely, more pages going up, I've fixed up the page layout so there shouldn't be any dead areas left. All in all I'm happy with CMO's progress. Roll on the next 4 years!

COMPETITION TIME!

One for the artists.. And with a prize of One year's DeviantART Subscription. for the winner, and 3 months subscription for two runners up.

• CMO art.. Of any type, though it must contain at least one of the main cast. (Sophie, Anna, Francis, Sid, Melody, Ellie, Fifi, Gogo, Lexima - characters more peripheral are fine too but not individually!)
• Entries could be posted on the Forums, on DA itself (message me so I know about it!), drawn on the Oekaki or emailed to me..
• Entries will be judged by the CMO/kaki admin team.
• Pictures will be marked on quality, but also originality, atmosphere, technique, etc!
• Deadline 30th March!

Just thought I'd post more, less important details on the competition..

I've been meaning to do this for ages, and thought I may as well make a yearly thing of it.

I realise it could be seen as a cynical means of accumulating fan-art. By losers, maybe. Nobody's making you do anything.

Reasons for an art competition:

• I have no CMO merch to sell atm, and I love DA, and I know a lot of you artists do too, so it seems a logical thing to give away.
• During the drought of CMO updates the most used site I run is the Oekaki, which obviously - is full of artists.
• Random chance sucks.

Sorry this is late, between Uni stuff, incoming baby stuff and commissions I've been a bit busy!

Well, judging this was seriously difficult as we liked all the entries for different reasons!

Hate, as always, had the humour down and it's always good to see Sid portrayed in a way he isn't usually. Geeks are sexy, damnit. Lens flare! Nobody's going to get confused about the gender of Sid with pics like this around.

Rmahnke came seemingly from nowhere with her entry - I'm not even sure she was trying to enter the competition, but it was within the time window. Came very close to the top 3, and is easily one of my favourite Anna fan-portraits..

Dante6083's Francis has a lot of motion (something lacking in most of the other entries!) and some good premonition work with the sword-wielding. good to see a full body piece too.

MissJiffy's pic is wonderful and gets a lot of points for using something non-digital. A hell of a lot of thought has gone into this composition, from the framing smoke to dynamic pose. Part of me is loath not to put this 1st, but ugh - Only one pic can come 1st.. :/

Always Tuesday's digital linework is once again exceptional in her entry, and thought about pose and composition is really evident. The skirt is crazily good, and the style, costume, colours and so on are all gorgeous. Excellent atmosphere in the scene too. Oh, and there are zombies, which is always good!

Finally..

QueenFish's Melody.. This entry just made me happy. QF's style & technique has been illustrated on the oekaki board already, but everything about this pic is so pretty. It's also won points by being the only Melody pic I remember anyone ever doing! (ha, turns out Rachel did one but.. Yeah, oops sorry, forgot about that!) Great to see one of the CMO cast in such a drastically different style yet still looking lovely.. Actually she looks better in QF's style than mine but lets ignore that for now shall we?

At the end of the day, I'm sad anyone had to lose, or even come second, but I'm just being a wuss. Congrats to the winners, and great thanks to you all for taking part. I'll be contacting all three of the winners through DeviantArt.
